Temperatures rising in New Orleans, Louisiana over the past 50 years¶
As a costal city New Orleans, Lousisana feeling the effects of climate change. Sea level rise projections over the next 50-100 years will place communities and infastructure at risk in New Orleans, as well as the surrounding areas. In 2016,The People of the Isle de Jean Charles, Became America's First Climate Refugees, the federal government awarded them $48 million to relocate.
In August 2023, New Orleans Louisiana experienced an extreme heat wave that placed citizens at risk, especially people in the homeless community. 25 People were documented as passing away due to heat stress, and heat related causes.
